Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question? Check our FAQs or message us in the form below

  • What’s happening during our stay?

Check out our Events Calendar. There may be some activities or events that interest you or may affect your stay. There’s plenty to do/see/play through-out the year at Blaithwaite, so there is always something happening and something for you do! Such as woodland walks, family days, craft fayres, treasure hunts etc! Or maybe some guided Outdoor activities for the children to attend, so you can make the most of some adult time.

There are occasions when we have weddings and events, necessary estate activities such as upkeep/ maintenance or livestock / nature needs when we may restrict access within the Estate. We aim to keep this to a minimum but the information is available for you prior to your stay to enable you to make the very best of your stay with us.

All our available activities are on our activities page (highlighted and  linked) should you wish to find out more. We strongly recommend you book prior to your stay, being a small family run business we need to plan ahead… and we really don’t like to disappoint!

  • Bringing children?

Let us try and lighten the load! We have cots and highchairs available! Just let us know prior to arrival and we can have them in your property ready for you.

There is also a small selection of toys and books / DVDs and games to keep the munchkins entertained whilst indoors.

If the outdoors is more your cup of tea then please check out our calendar for any events or our activity pages for more info on what’s on when, what’s free, and what’s bookable when!

  • Are dogs welcome?

Four legged friends are welcome! because dogs love a holiday too! For a family stay there is a max of 4 in the House, 2 in the Stables, Old School House and Blaithwaite Cottage, and 1 in the Cottage pods and Tepees. For weddings and group stays this is at the discretion of the event organiser to decide if this is appropriate for your stay.

Ellrigg does not accept pets due to the layout of the building.

Please bring pet bedding and bowls from your home. There are super walks both locally and within the Estate.

We have recently created a dedicated dog walking woodland where you can safely let your dog’s run free! (Please ensure your dogs are under control whilst off the lead) We ask all pets are kept on a lead in the shared grounds for obvious reasons. It is essential we keep our beautiful estate clean and children safe, so no animals are permitted in the play areas and all waste must be collected… there are great biodegradable bags now available! (in our shop too!!)

  • Feeding the five thousand?

Why not arrange a delivery? Many major supermarkets will deliver to Blaithwaite but why not keep it local?! Thats what were all about!

Fresh fruit and veg can either be delivered by the Limes fruit and veg of Wigton or can collected at the entrance to the farm (High Blaithwaite farm) just next door!

We will have our fab High quality ‘Estate café/shop’ open by March 2021 selling all British products, locally sourced where ever possible so it’s there for the essentials, or those days where you just fancy that cup of proper coffee and home-made cake!

There are a wealth of awesome eateries in this area and even if it’s a takeaway that tickles your fancy then see our welcome pack or handy info for guests at the bottom of each properties page on the website, for how and when to place your orders, or find the place to suit you to dine out in the area.

  • Are bedding and towels provided?

Yes they are, one set of towels per person (they are not replenished daily like a hotel) but there are washing facilities for each property. Bedding is provided and there are always additional throws and blankets for those chillier winter evenings so you can snuggle up! Some additional bedding is always left you in the properties just in case you need this. If you do require anything in additional to what has been supplied for you, all you need to do is ask and we will be happy to assist.
